Join Raw Rock Missions!

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights

of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly.

Defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Proverbs 31: 8-9

Next month my Showbread has the opportunity to serve in Ecuador at Casa De Fe, an orphanage that provides care in a loving and supportive environment for abandoned and special needs children. Our team will be spending two weeks at Casa De Fe helping in any and every way we can.

Last year, after working with young girls victimized by a sordid prostitution network in Kolkata, India, members of Showbread started Raw Rock Missions, an outlet for Showbread’s worldwide mission work. We wish that we could bring everyone willing to help to Equador with us, but since we can't, we thought of another way for everyone to be a part of Raw Rock Missions...

During the time Showbread will be working in Equador, anyone who wants to be a part of Raw Rock Missions can pledge that time to spend serving others in whatever way(s) they can. You could look up shelters, centers, hospitals, churches or whatever you have in your community to volunteer at... This could mean feeding/caring for the homeless, reading to sick kids, assisting the elderly, helping to clean up or repair a home or building, or just making a donation to charity. The possibilities really are there, you just have to look and find something you are capable of and someone in need of help.

If you write to rawrockmissions@yahoo.com or the showbread myspace with a subject that reads "PLEDGING TIME FOR RAW ROCK MISSIONS" telling us how you will pledge time from January 20th-February 1st (or whenever you can) to serve others, we will put together a list of everyone that is serving all over the world and has become a part of Raw Rock Missions.

You can learn more about Casa De Fe, see the children and missionaries we will be working with, read newsletters and more at: lacasadefe.org
and learn more about Raw Rock Missions at rawrockmissions.blogspot.com.

He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” Mark 9:36-37

meet the team!

Meet the team of young missionaries going to Ecuador this January...

Travis Riner was the one of the founding member of the band Showbread in 1997 and cursed the band with their silly name. He is a youth pastor in Orlando, Florida.

Lisa Riner is Travis' wife. She keeps the kids in his youth group from writing on the ceiling.

Patrick Porter is the other founding member of Showbread. He went to India last january and was once stung by hundreds of bees while doing mission work in the states. His favorite food is pad thai.

Vanessa Wells (Vanessa Porter after 11/17/07) is Patrick Porter's fiance. She loves food.

Abi Martinez (Abi Porter after 11/11/07) is Josh Porter's finace. She enjoys organic foods and watching oprah.

Lindsi Johnson is a gifted performance artist. She wobbles her head when she talks and likes kids.

Mike Jensen went to college in Statesboro, GA, where he let his dog use the carpet like a toilet.

Ricky Holbrook plays drums with an intense face. He apologizes for his jokes.

Josh Porter writes books and in his spare time plays shuffleboard.

Landon Ginnings plays in super popular punk outfit Knife To Meet You. He has never been excited in his life.

Matt Davis is an aspiring spokesperson for Monster Energy Drinks. He likes dogs and cats.

Jose combines insults with compliments.

Megan... we haven't met yet... she is a friend of Travis and Lisa.

NOTE: despite the whimsical nature of this post, these people really are our team... we'll have real updates featuring them when the trip is closer to fruition!
